Hostilities With Quailia Ended; Diplomatic Relations Established

Today, Harambanistan and Quailia signed an agreement putting former hostilities behind them and formalizing diplomatic relations.

After Harambanistan declared independence from Quailia on June 24, the relationship between the two countries has been rocky and uncertain. From the beginning of the independence movement, Harambanistani authorities maintained that the movement was without prejudice against Quailia but simply concerned with securing a prosperous future for Harambanistan. Quailia initially did not respond to the declaration of independence. An uneasy silence existed between Harambanistan and its former imperial master until late July, when Quailia initiated talks to discuss the matter of Harambanistani independence.

The agreement, titled “Agreement Establishing Recognition, Diplomacy, and Friendship Between the Republic of Quailia and the Integralist Republic of Harambanistan,” contains six articles. The first article establishes mutual recognition between the signatories. In the second article, Quailia renounces all claims over Harambanistan. The third article recognizes that the independence of Harambanistan was achieved legally and was not a hostile act. The fourth article articulates that Harambanistan bears no ill-will towards Quailia going forward. The fifth article expresses the signatories’ desire for mutually beneficial, peaceful, and friendly relations. The sixth article plans for the beginning of formal diplomatic relations, the exchange of ambassadors, and the construction of embassies.

Benedict Baltz, Chairman of the Christian Workers’ Party Central Committee and Premier of the State Council, was appointed the first Ambassador to Quailia, and a room in Capital District, Quailia was designated as the Harambanistani embassy.

“Recognition from Quailia is a win for peace,” Baltz said. “Despite going our separate ways, Quailia remains our mother country, and Harambanistan wishes nothing but the best for Quailia and our ongoing relationship.”

Quailia is the first country with which Harambanistan has entered full diplomatic relations.
