Harambanistan Joins New Intergovernmental Organization, the Quailian Commonwealth

Today, the Integralist Republic of Harambanistan and the Republic of Quailia founded a new intergovernmental organization. Called the Quailian Commonwealth, the organization exists “to promote friendship and cooperation among the nations who share in the Quailian heritage,” according to a Commonwealth spokesman.

In order to be eligible for membership, a micronation must be descended politically from the Empire of Quailia, have a significant Quailian population, or otherwise be inheritors of the Quailian cultural or political identity. At present the two founding member states are the only micronations eligible for membership, although the organization is open to new members should the political situation evolve such that there are more eligible states.

Benedict Baltz, who currently serves as head of government of both member states, has been inaugurated as the organization’s first Secretary-General.

“The formation of the Quailian Commonwealth is a sign of a new era in Harambanistan-Quailia relations,” said Baltz. “When Harambanistan declared independence in June, the status of our relationship was uncertain, and there were fears that hostility might develop. The first major improvement in relations occurred on August 4, when Harambanistan and Quailia signed an agreement establishing friendship and formal relations. However, the historical relationship between the two countries was not settled. The Quailian Commonwealth settles it. The historical relationship between Harambanistan and Quailia is not a cause of a lasting grudge but rather a common bond of unity and friendship.”

The Quailian Commonwealth is the second intermicronational organization that Harambanistan has joined, the first being the International Catholic League on August 27.
